Want to know what others think of you? It’s easier than you might think.

All you have to do is ask. And seeking feedback for enhancing professional skills only works to our favor.

The opposite, avoiding feedback, often leads to stagnation, and hinders our ability to adapt and grow. We need constructive criticism if we are to improve to the best versions of ourselves.

True feedback fosters a culture of openness and continuous improvement, allowing us to thrive.

Actively seeking that “difficult to hear” feedback demonstrates humility and a commitment to continuous improvement. Those are qualities that get you noticed.

Frame your request positively, such as, “I’d love your honest thoughts on how I handled that client call,” and resist the urge to defend yourself if you don’t like what you hear.

Treat constructive criticism as valuable data points for growth rather than personal attacks. Following up later to share what you learned and how you’re applying it solidifies your reputation for authenticity and adaptability.

Here are five ways you can seek feedback starting today:

✅ Ask for feedback regularly from colleagues and supervisors. Make it a habit to check in after significant projects or meetings, creating an ongoing dialogue about your performance.

✅ Frame your request positively by expressing your desire to improve. For example, say, “I appreciate your perspective and would love to hear your thoughts on my recent presentation.”

✅ Listen actively during feedback conversations. Focus on understanding the insights shared without interrupting or becoming defensive. This shows respect for the other person's perspective.

✅ Reflect on the feedback you receive and identify specific areas for improvement. Take time to analyze the comments and consider how you can implement changes in your work.

✅ Follow up with those who provided feedback to share what you learned and how you applied their suggestions. This not only reinforces your commitment to growth but also encourages a culture of feedback within your team.

By actively seeking feedback, you open yourself to new perspectives and opportunities for growth. This practice not only enhances your skills but also fosters a supportive environment where everyone feels empowered to learn and improve together.
